"This is the best tree-lovers monument that could possibly be found in all the forests of the world," declared conservationist John Muir when describing the majestic coast redwoods of Muir Woods.

On May 19, 1945, members of the United Nations Conference on International Organization met  to honor the memory of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the thirty-first president of the United States in this grove of enduring Redwoods. There is a plaque in the park in memory of the event.
